What Now?
January was busy. Hectic. We finally moved into our new home and then we flew to Seville just a few days later. I wrote about it here: January!
As we move into February I am feeling a bit lost. It feels like everything we have been working towards, for months, is now ticked off. Suddenly I am cast adrift. The routine I had established last year was thrown out the window as we worked to get the house in order. A job I had applied for sent me a rejection email. Yes, I am definitely needing a kick up the backside to get my act together. I need to make a plan. I need some major motivation.
So what to do?
Step 1 is to get back to a routine. I hadn’t been to the gym since the beginning of January, until today. I was dreading it. But as with all these things, once I was there it was ok! I’ll aim to go a couple of times a week and I will also get back to my outdoor fitness sessions. I was going once a week, so it will be good to book in to these again. I am also reminded that I said I wanted to do more swimming too, especially in the sea. So I will get on to that.
Step 2 is to think carefully about my employment status. I have a couple of ‘freelance’ type jobs which I applied for and got. I am speaking to a recruiter later and I am planning to set myself up as self-employed so I can take some other opportunities that have been mentioned to me. My confidence has definitely been knocked by not being shortlisted for the jobs I applied for. I know what kind of jobs I am looking for, so I feel like there are options out there. Hopefully I am not completely past it!
Step 3 is to make some plans. We are off to Lisbon in a few weeks for another Half Marathon (eek!). We have got different friends coming for lunch soon and family and friends coming to stay over the next few months. Having things to look forward to and plan for definitely helps!
And step 4 is to carry on getting the house organised. We had a great trip to Dunelm last week. I haven’t been to Dunelm in ages, but we wanted to pick up a few things. We needed lampshades for the spare rooms and the landing. I was so happy with the bird one we found!

We also needed boring things like waste paper bins for a couple of rooms and toilet brushes. We went for silicone ones this time. I told you - boring.

We also bought a massive doormat. Our new house has white floors and I was bored of standing in the cold on the doorstep, while Andrew removed his shoes. Now we can both stand on the doormat and remove our shoes!
We also went all in on storage. Andrew got some organisers for his wardrobe and I was very taken with the shoe stackers!
I’ll also carry on using Vinted to help us declutter. I made quite a few sales last week so spent a lot of time going backwards and forwards to the post office!
Writing this post has been helpful- it’s made me re-focus on what I need to do as well as reflect on how much we have achieved so far. How is your February shaping up?

The house looks lovely. I’m also feeling untethered, I’ve started at a new gym, (feels strange) and applying for jobs whilst trying to convince myself I’m not past it! Did you go to the run club last week?
I love all the new homeware additions, especially the white folded lampshade. I can understand the feeling of building up to so many things, them happening, and then feeling a bit without direction but hopefully you will start to frame a new mental list of what's next. The freelance work sounds really exciting and you are most certainly not past it!! x
